Welcome to the Miami University Libraries Guide to Geographic Information Systems.

This subject guide is designed to help students and faculty find good information pertaining specifically to the technologies of Geographic Infomation Systems (GIS). Because GIS touches so many subject areas, this guide is being developed to provide a variety of information on how GIS works, what GIS is, and how to enrich any subject by using it. 

Because of the technical nature of GIS, it is very important to understand where you can go to help with questions that may arise.  From this subject guide, we will aim to provide you with the contact information and resources available both here at Miami University and through ESRI.  ESRI is the industry standard software maker for GIS applications, and Miami is a full license holder of their suite of GIS applications.  Because of the bredth of these products from ESRI, it is hard to know every answer to every possible question, but here we will try to provide you a place to begin.

Please look to the tabs at the top of this guide for general topic areas relating to GIS.  From these tabs, you should be able to find more detailed information regarding GIS at Miami.
