Mapping and Geospatial Imagery 

Many types of maps are produced by government agencies.  Maps of these and other U.S. agencies are in the Libraries maps collections, often received as depository items.  Maps of other national governments are also in the Libraries collections.

U.S. Geological Survey USGS is the principal mapping and imagery agency of the U.S. government.

U.S. Central Intelligence Agency The CIA produces maps and other publicly available information about countries of the world.

U.S. National Geospatial Intelligence Agency NGA is responsible for Defense Department mapping and imagery.

U.S. National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration  NOAA covers all the aspects of its name.

• Office of Coast Survey  This NOAA office produces nautical charts of U.S. waters.
• National Weather Service  NWS is the Atmospheric arm of NOAA.  Weather mapping, hurricane tracking and history, and many other resources are available.

U.S. Census Bureau The Census publishes maps and other geographical data.

U.S. Forest Service The Forest Service publishes maps of the forests and grasslands under their management.

Natural Resources Canada NRCan is Canada's counterpart to USGS.
